Life

Creech was born July 29, 1945, in South Euclid, Ohio. She has three brothers (Dennis, Doug, and Tom) and one sister (Sandy), upon whom she based the characters in "Absolutely Normal Chaos" and "Ruby holler" . Every year her family would visit Quincy, Kentucky, the inspiration for the town of Bybanks, which appeared in "Chasing Redbird", "Bloomability", "Walk Two Moons", and (by reference) "The Wanderer". Her grandmother plays a part in "Granny Torrelli Makes Soup". She received a BA from Hiram College and a MA from George Mason University. In 1979, she moved to England. In addition to being a writer, Creech has taught English and writing at a high school and a boarding school, The American School in Switzerland (TASIS). She drew the setting of "Bloomability" from her experiences in New Jersey. She is married to Lyle Rigg, who was the headmaster of The Pennington School in Pennington, New Jersey, with whom she has two children (Rob and Karin).
