Aisake Faga Ó hAilpín (24 August 1985 -) is a former hurler for Na Piarsaigh GAA and current Australian Rules footballer for the Carlton Football Club.

Hurling career

Ó hAilpín was born in Bankstown, Sydney and moved to Ireland with his family in 1988. He later took up hurling with Na Piarsaigh in Cork, and became a player of exceptional qualities and a prolific free-taker, being selected to play for both his club and the Cork county minor (under-18) Gaelic football and hurling teams. He was on the Cork minor teams in both hurling and Gaelic football in 2003, when he played in both All-Ireland minor semi-finals. He played with his two brothers, Seán Óg and Setanta for Na Piarsaigh GAA when they won the Cork Senior Club Hurling Championship in 2004. After this he took up Australian rules football and joined the Carlton Football Club in Melbourne, Australia, along with his elder brother Setanta.

AFL career

Aisake was placed on the Carlton Football Club's rookie list for the 2005 AFL season, but is yet to play a game for the club. He spent 2005 in the VFL reserves at Carlton's affiliate, the Northern Bullants, and was in and out of the Bullants' senior team in 2006.

He began his third year again on the rookie list in 2007, which must be his final rookie-listed season by AFL rules, playing exclusively in the Bullants' seniors and predominately in the ruck. He was believed to be close to elevation and selection, with Carlton coach Denis Pagan confirming this in a post-match press conference on 9 June, but shortly afterawards sustained a season-ending groin injury. Carlton announced during the 2007 season that they would elevate Aisake to the senior list for 2008 [cite news|url=http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/common/story_page/0,8033,22075306%255E19742,00.html

Trivia

Aisake's unusual first name is explained by the fact that his mother is from the island of Rotuma in Fiji.

Aisake starred along with his brothers Setanta and Seán Óg in a documentary entitled, 'Tall, Dark and Ó hAilpín' which featured on RTÉ One. In the documentary, Aisake talks about his sporting career and his current exploits with Aussie Rules football.
