BBC Local Radio stations inDerby ,Leicester , andBirmingham . He made his debut TV appearance reporting forBBC Midlands 's regional news programme "Midlands Today " inBirmingham in 1978. Whilst at BBC Midlands, Yates was also a regional continuity announcer. He spent seven years withGrampian Television as a presenter and reporter for "North Tonight " from 1980. Afterwards, he presentedAnglia Television 's evening news show "About Anglia ."Yates joined
Sky Television from its launch in 1989, becoming the first face onSky News .In 1996 he began presenting on
BBC World News , and then became an anchor onDeutsche Welle inGermany in 1998, though he soon returned to theBBC .References
