- George Chapline, Jr.
George Frederick Chapline, Jr. is a
condensed matter physicist , atLawrence Livermore National Laboratory . He is known for his several insights such asgossamer superconductors , which he discovered together withRobert Laughlin . He was awarded the E. O. Lawrence award in 1982 by theUnited States Department of Energy . [cite web | author= | title=1980s Laureates: George F. black hole s, proposing that they "do not exist." [cite journal | last=Ball | first=Philip | coauthors= | title=Black holes 'do not exist' | journal=Nature | volume= | issue= | pages= | doi=10.1038/news050328-8 |year=2005 | url=http://www.nature.com/news/2005/050328/full/050328-8.html | accessdate=2008-07-03] Drawing his conclusions from quantum mechanical analyses, he believes objects currently thought to be black holes are actuallydark-energy star s.
