Squamish River

The Squamish River is a short but very large river in the Canadian province of British Columbia. Its drainage basin is convert|3328|km2|sqmi in size. Course

The Squamish River drains a complex of basins in the Coast Mountains just north of Vancouver. Its flows generally south to the head of Howe Sound [BCGNIS|19702|Squamish River] where the town of Squamish is located. Its main tributaries are the Cheakamus, Elaho, and Mamquam Rivers. Its source is at Mount Cayley, an active volcano on the southwestern flank of the small unnamed range that includes Powder Mountain and Brandywine Mountain to the west of Whistler, and it is joined a few miles from its source by the much longer Elaho River.
