Josefina Eugenia Vázquez Mota (born
January 20 ,1961 inMexico City ) is a Mexican economist and politician who was recently appointed as Secretary of Education by PresidentFelipe Calderón . Previously, she served for five years asSecretary of Social Development underVicente Fox 's administration, which she left to become campaign coordinator of Calderon's bid for the presidency.Education and professional career
Vázquez Mota studied the technical Bachelor in CECyT 9 of IPN, she also studied
economics at theUniversidad Iberoamericana . She also pursued studies at the "Instituto Panamericano de Alta Dirección de Empresas" (IPADE ).The National Action Party (PAN) invited her to run for a seat in the Chamber of Deputies for the 58th legislature, she won and served in the lower house of Congress as the economics vice-coordinator of the PAN faction. In December 2000 President Vicente Fox designated her
Secretary of Social Development , resigning to that position on January 2005. She moved on to become the coordinator of Felipe Calderón Hinojosa's campaign for the 2006 presidential elections. After her candidate won the presidential bid, she was seen as a likely new interior minister ("secretario de gobernacion") of the Calderón government but she was instead appointed as new education minister ("secretario de educacion publica") startingDecember 1 ,2006 . She is an inspirational writer, she wrote "Dios mío, hazme viuda por favor" (Oh God, please, make me a widow), in which she shows her deep trust in the catholic church and the willing of God to do all the dirty job.Family
Josefina Vázquez Mota is married to Sergio Ocampo Muñoz an information science graduate and has three daughters: María José, Celia María and Montserrat of ages 14, 11 and 7 respectively.
