nihongo|Judau Ashta|ジュドー・アーシタ|Judō Āshita|pronounced "Judo" is the 14 year old hero in the television series "Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ".

He is a rather typical of a Gundam protagonist, the beginning of the series shows him growing as a poor junk dealer at the space colony of Shangrila in Side 1. He's rather loudmouthed and straightfoward but has a good heart and displays Newtype abilities. Unlike most Gundam protagonists, he is optimistic and happy-go-lucky, instead of being anti-social or brooding (Amuro Ray and Kamille Bidan being prime examples). Judau is a young teenage boy enthralled with mobile suits and an avid supporter of the AEUG. He also has a younger sister Leina, whom he might catfight repeatedly with, but still cares very deeply for.

It would be interesting to note that in comparison to Amuro and Kamille, the heroes of Mobile Suit Gundam and Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, respectively, that he didn't develop any latent skills in his first battle. He piloted the Zeta Gundam very poorly his first outing, and on several sortee's after, he didn't show much improvement until a few episodes into the series. Still, he is able to reach a peak that puts him in a prime candidacy for top-notch pilots like Amuro, Kamille, and Char, more-over in the tail-end of the category, however. Nonetheless, he was -still- a very great pilot, and a necessity for the AEUG in order to fight the first Neo-Zeon movement, led by Haman Karn.

Biography

During the final battle with Paptimus Scirocco, Kamille Bidan, the hero from "Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam", was placed into a vegetable-like state after crashing the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam into Scirocco's mobile suit PMX-003 The O. This left the problem aboard the "Argama" (the main AEUG ship of the show) with no central Gundam pilot for the ship.

After the Argama docks at the Side 1 colony of Shangri-La, Judau attempts twice to steal the Zeta Gundam but each time he's caught and forced to return the suit. Eventually, Judau becomes a member of the Argama's crew and the new pilot for the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam. Notably, his group of rag-tag Shangri-La friends included the bossy Beecha Oleg, Beecha's side-kick Mondo Agake, the timid Iino Abbav. Judau has had numerous female characters around him. Elle Vianno, who was not afraid to make herself clear and later the crew is joined by Anaheim Electronics/AEUG pilot, Roux Louka.

As events progress, Judau receives the MSZ-010 Double Zeta Gundam from Anaheim Electronics to more effectively combat the threat of Axis and its new army. Judau uses the ZZ Gundam to great effect through out the series. Eventually he uses the Double Zeta to defeat Axis Leader Haman Karn in a duel. In an early battle, before Axis declares itself Neo-Zeon, Judau's younger sister, Leina Ashta, is captured by Glemmy Toto. Glemmy is enthralled by Leina and spends most of the time teaching her 'civilized' customs, such as ballet, musical instruments, and being a 'lady, to pose a greater image of the Zeon movement.

Because of this, a great deal of the series deals with Judau trying to find his sister. At one point, when Neo-Zeon forces occupy the Federation Assembly at Dakar, Leina manages to escape from her captivity. Unfortunately, Leina and Judau met up with Haman, who injures Leina during a shooting. When Judau takes Leina to a cabin to rest, he's suddenly caught up in a mobile suit battle, and one of the damaged mobile suits crashes into the cabin. Judau thinks that Leina had perished, but later we find out the Leina had escaped, and was rescued by former White Base pilot, Sayla Mass.

Falsely thinking his sister is dead the incident leaves Judau depressed and detached from reality. During the closing months of the Neo-Zeon war, Judau became convinced that Leina was still alive. While the rest of the crew figured he was delusional and refused to accept the truth, it was his Newtype intuitions that proved him to be true. At the end of the series Judau is reunited with his sister and leaves with Roux to go to the planet Jupiter.

Other Appearances

He reappears as an old man, going under the name "Grey Stoke" in the manga Crossbone Gundam Skullheart in which he helps the protagonist Tobia Arronax. His Mobile Suit, the Gump, bears striking similarities in overall appearance to Judau's old MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam.

Twenty years later, Grey appears again, alongside V Gundam protagonist Uso Evin, in the manga side-story of V Gundam. It is in this side-story, in which Grey is shown to have somehow acquired an intact, black LM314V21 Victory 2 Gundam, that another interesting fact is revealed: Concealed underneath the Gump's odd-looking cylindrical "head" is its true head: That of the MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam

Judau was also the central character of the non-canon crossover manga with Space Runaway Ideon, Mobile Suit Vs. Giant God: Gigantis' Counterattack, where the UC universe is in fact the universe Ideon remade at the end of the apocalyptic movie conclusion and Judau is said to be the reincarnation of Ideon protagonist Cosmo Yuki.
