Traditional Chinese : 恆春鎮; Taiwanese: Hêng-chhun; literally "Eternal Spring Town") ofPingtung County is the southernmost township inTaiwan (administered byRepublic of China ). Hengchun is also the only urban township in the southern part of Pingtung County. Hengchun has a land area of 136.7630square kilometer s and has a population of 31,288 as of December 2007.Hengchun is the entry way to
Kenting National Park , the southernmost National Park in the country. With pristine beaches and a vibrant tourist industry, the Hengchun area often attracts more travelers than local residents. Hengchun town was once surrounded by a city wall and while the wall is no longer entire, the four city gates remain intact.
