Torrensville, South Australia

Torrensville (coord|34|55|S|138|33|E|region:AU-SA_type:city, postcode 5031) is a middle-class suburb, two kilometres from the CBD of Adelaide, South Australia. It was named in 1944 after Irish-born colonial premier Robert Torrens.

Torrensville has a predominantly Greek Australian population, and a lesser extent of Italian Australians, following mass migration in the middle of the 20th century. The suburb is particularly associated with Soviet-born Greek Australian musician Jim the Greek, a long term resident.

Torrensville is in the City of West Torrens local government area, the South Australian House of Assembly electoral district of West Torrens and the Australian House of Representatives Division of Hindmarsh.

Both the state and federal MPs, in their respective electoral districts that Torrensville is part of, are notable Greek Australians Tom Koutsantonis and Steve Georganas of the Australian Labor Party. Their success in winning office is partly due to the high population of Greek Australians in their electoral districts, mostly from Torrensville and neighbouring Mile End and Thebarton, that has Adelaide's largest Greek Orthodox church, St. George.

Thebarton Theatre, a historic and popular entertainment venue, is located in Torrensville.
