Hayley Jane Lewis (following her marriage, Hayley Taylor) (born
March 2 ,1974 inBrisbane ,Queensland ) is a retiredAustralia nswimmer best known for winning four gold medals at the1990 Commonwealth Games as a 16-year-old.Lewis's 1990 Commonwealth Games gold medals were in: the 200m freestyle, the 400m freestyle, the 200m butterfly and the 400m individual medley. She also won bronze in the 200m individual medley.
At the 1991 World Championships in Perth she won gold in the 200m freestyle, silver in the 400m freestyle, silver in the 400m individual medley, and bronze in the 200m butterfly.
For most of the rest of her career, Lewis focused on the 800m freestyle, in which her best Olympic result was a silver medal at the
1992 Summer Olympics , when she also won a bronze medal in the 400m freestyle. At the2001 World Aquatics Championships , Lewis won a bronze medal in the 5km Open Water competition. She had planned to attempt to qualify for the 10km open water event at the2004 Summer Olympics , but this event was removed from the competition. Lewis ended up announcing her retirement on 22 November 2001, she moved on to run the "Hayley Lewis Swim School".In October 2003 Lewis briefly returned to the news after being called to testify at a murder trial. Lewis had overheard the murder of a man in a house neighbouring hers on 1 March 2000.
Lewis is married to Greg Taylor, and they have a son Jacob Joe Taylor.
