Hayley Rose Lawson (née Smith) was a fictional character in the Australian soap opera "Home and Away". She was portrayed from 1998 to 2005 by actress Rebecca Cartwright and from September to November 2005 by Ella Scott Lynch.

Character

Hayley came from a dysfunctional family background, as did her brothers, Will (Zac Drayson) and Nick (Chris Egan). Their mother Eve had a severe psychological illness and their father Ken (Anthony Phelan) was an alcoholic. During their childhood, the three children were in and out of foster care. When Will settled in Summer Bay to live with Irene Roberts (Lynne McGranger), Hayley ran away from her foster home to join him.

Hayley's mother is in a psychiatric institution, but her father came back into her life and then fell in love with Irene. Tragedy hit again when Ken was crushed by a car he was working under at his car repair shop and killed.

Hayley's marriage to Noah Lawson (Beau Brady) was cut short when he was brutally shot by the psychotic Sarah Lewis (Luisa Hastings-Edge). After losing Noah, Hayley isolated herself from the world, only venturing into the dating game again after much coaxing from Leah Patterson-Baker (Ada Nicodemou). Kim Hyde (Chris Hemsworth) was her first relationship after Noah, until she realised that she was actually in love with Scott Hunter (Kip Gamblin), who was once engaged to her best friend, Dani Sutherland (Tammin Sursok).

Scott fell in love with Hayley, but after a one-night stand with Kim, Hayley discovered she was pregnant. After the paternity test results were switched by an unknown hand at the hospital, Hayley, Scott and Kim believed for months that Kim was the father of Hayley's baby.

Scott stepped aside for Kim, although he was still very much in love with Hayley. Hayley also struggled with her love for Scott, but decided to make plans to marry Kim. However, Hayley called off the wedding at the last minute. She ran away and Scott went looking for her. Scott found Hayley just as she went into labour, giving birth to a son, which she named Noah, after her late husband.

It was then discovered at the hospital that Scott was actually the father of Hayley's baby and Scott and Hayley were thrilled. With their baby Noah, they left for a new life in France. HASmith
