Quizás, Quizás, Quizás

"Quizás, Quizás, Quizás" (also known as "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" in English), a popular song by Cuban songwriter Osvaldo Farrés [http://latino.peermusic.com/artistpage2/415.html Osvaldo Farrés biography] ] . Farrés wrote the original Spanish lyrics, as well as composing the 1947 hit. The English lyrics were written by Joe Davis.

In 1997 the alternative rock band Cake released "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" on their album "Fashion Nugget". Unlike the original version of "Quizás, Quizás, Quizás," Cake's version was recorded entirely in English.

*1949. The Gordon Jenkins version, with Tony Bavaar as vocalist, was recorded on August 12, 1949 and released by Decca Records as catalog number 24720.

*1958. Nat King Cole regularly performed the song with a heavy American accent. His version appeared on his 1958 album "Cole Español".

*1960s. The Jamaican ska musician Prince Buster recorded the song in the 1960s as "Rude, Rude, Rudee."

*1964. The Doris Day version was recorded on November 5, 1964 for Columbia Records and not released as a single, but only on albums. (See "Latin for Lovers.") It was featured in the Australian film "Strictly Ballroom" in 1992.

*1997. The alternative rock band Cake released "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" on their album "Fashion Nugget". (See Above)

*2000. Former Spice Girls member Geri Halliwell released "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" as a B-side to her single "Bag It Up".

*2004. Laurel Aitken on his album "En Enspanol". Las Rubias del Norte on their album "Rumba Internationale".

*2006. Former Spice Girls member Emma Bunton included "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" on the special edition on her CD "Life in Mono".

*2007. The ska band Eastern Standard Time of Washington, D.C. covered "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" on their CD "Time is Tight".

*2008. The Pussycat Dolls included "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" as a bonus track on the CD 2 of the Deluxe edition of their CD "Doll Domination".

*Dates unknown. Others to have recorded the song include Rigo Tovar, Gordon Jenkins, Desi Arnaz, Omara Portuondo, Sonora Matancera, Xavier Cugat, Mantovani, The Stargazers, Pepe Jaramillo, Celia Cruz, Lila Downs, Henri Salvador (in French) and, more recently, Geri Halliwell (on the "America's Sweethearts" soundtrack). Turkish ska band Athena did a cover entitled "Senden, benden, bizden."

Film and television

Film

*1992. A scene in the Australian film "Strictly Ballroom" featured the Doris Day version.

*1999. The song was included on the film soundtrack for "Buena Vista Social Club" (but not on the album of the same name).

*2000. The Spanish version was used in the Wong Kar-wai movie "In the Mood for Love".

*2001. The English version of the song was featured in the "Tortilla Soup".

*2001. Cake's cover of the song appears at the beginning of the Mexican film "El Segundo Aire".

*2003. An English version of the song is heard during the opening credits of "Dot the i" starring Gael Garcia Bernal.

*2004. Sara Montiel's version of the song was lip-synced by Gael Garcia Bernal in the movie "Bad Education".

*2005. The Spanish version was used in "Brokeback Mountain", although it was not included in the movie's soundtrack album.

*2006. The song appears in the movie "Running with Scissors".

Television

*2000. The English version was used as the theme for the British version of the sitcom "Coupling", and was sung by Mari Wilson.

*2003. The theme for the American version of "Coupling" was sung by Lindsay Price, one of the show's main actors.

*2006. In season 2 of the ABC show "Dancing With The Stars", the song was sung live during a dance routine featuring George Hamilton and his partner Edyta Sliwinska.

*2008. The English version was used in the first months of 2008 in an advertisement for the show "Californication" on Spanish FOX TV.
