TiN Radio

TiN Radio

TiN Radio (This is Not Radio) is a new community radio station in Newcastle, Australia. The Station is music based, but includes interest group programs. The Radio station started as part of the This Is Not Art festival, an annual art and politics festival held in Newcastle on the October long weekend.

For the last several years, The This Is Not Art festival has had a special Fm broadcasting licence over the duration of the festival, a whole five days. Each year, a bunch of volunteers would set up in a room in the Newcastle town hall, and have a lovely make shift radio station, with heaps of random people coming in and doing shows, and interviews, and live forums, and performance’s. Then, in 2005, they got a lot of stuff together and found a real live radio station, and had an FM broadcast AND online broadcast. And since then TiN Radio hasn't gotten off the online waves.

TiN has had a bunch of other special FM broadcasts, such as for the Youth Week, the International Women’s day, and the Stomp festival.

During its first year and a half TiN Radio has been located in the first floor of the Hunter Street Civic Arcade but in early 2007 they moved the studio to reunite with the organisation behind TiN Radio: the Octapod - independent arts and media association Newcastle.

In March 2007 a new and even better looking and sounding TiN Radio was launched.
