Cary-Grove High School is a high school in Cary, Illinois, USA; it is part of Community High School District 155. It is called Cary-Grove because its students are from both Cary and Fox River Grove, Illinois. In 1995, it was the subject of much news attention after the Fox River Grove level crossing accident that killed seven students [ [Oct. 27 1995 http://www.cnn.com/US/9510/bus_crash/10-27/] ] . In 2006, on the anniversary of the accident, another Cary-Grove student Justin Glassmeyer was killed at the same crossing [ [Long, K. Boy, 15, killed by Metra train in Fox River Grove. Oct 25, 2006. http://www.nwherald.com/articles/2006/10/25/news/local/doc453ffeab5e041327698861.txt.] ] .

Cary-Grove opened in 1961. Originally, the school colors (purple and white) and the tune for the school song were borrowed from Northwestern University. In the late '70s, while the school colors remained purple and white, the sports, cheerleader and band uniforms became blue and white. During the '80s, the changeover to blue and white became official.

Athletics

The school's team name is the Cary-Grove Trojans, with their signature "Trojan Man" mascot - a selected student fitted with a Trojan costume who runs around during football games. The Trojan carries a sword and most of the time he will do push ups for every time the Trojans score.

The Trojans' football team made it to state in 2004, but lost in the state finals [http://www.mchenrycountysports.com/schools/cary-grove/#about] ] .In recent years the team made it to the state quarterfinals but lost in close games to rival Crystal Lake South High School in 2005 and long distance opponent Batavia High School in 2006. Cary plays at Al Boeher Field, which has grown very crowded due to their success in recent years. Cary-Grove runs a Wing-T option offense and a complex 3-3-5 defense which is perennially one of the best in the Fox Valley Conference.

Likely the Trojans' best team, the 1993 Girls Basketball Team, propelled by forwards and Northwest Herald co-players of the year Megan DePuy and Amy Nelson went undefeated in the conference. During their final game of the regular season head coach Gary Wadlington, died of a heart attack. The Trojans then went onto lose in sectionals.
