- ETR 450
ETR 450 ("ElettroTrenoRapido 450") was the first Italian
tilting train (also calledPendolino ).The project was started in the 1970s by
FIAT Ferroviaria , the first train entering in service on the lineRome -Milan in 1989. Every train is made up of 9 units, with tilting boogies loosely inspired to those of the BritishAdvanced Passenger Trains .The trains can reach a maximum speed of 280 km/h. The ETR 450 is currently in use on the Rome-
Bari , Rome-Ancona -Rimini andGenoa -Florence lines, although it is being replaced by more modern Pendolino-technologyETR 460 /480 and by the even fasterETR 500 .Characteristics
