Mary Coustas (born 16 September 1964) is an Australian television personality. Originally from Melbourne, Coustas often performs as the character "Effie": a stereotypical second-generation Greek Australian. She completed a Bachelor of Arts at Deakin University in Melbourne, majoring in Performing Arts, and sub-majoring in Journalism.
Mary has won two awards for Best Comedy Performer, was voted by the Australian public for the Logie Award and voted by her industry peers for the Variety Heart Award.[1]
Television Career
Coustas' initial claim to fame was on the popular 1980s television sitcom Acropolis Now. Since then she has frequented television commercials and as host of her own peculiar, short-lived, talk show called Greeks On The Roof.[2] She played straight dramatic roles in two police series: Skirts (1990), Hercules Returns (1993) and Wildside (1998).
