South Hills Bible Chapel

South Hills Bible Chapel is a non-denominational Christian church located in McMurray, Pennsylvania. The history of this church goes back to 1963 when nine couples began meeting in the South Hills region for Bible study and prayer. After years of planning to establish a new church, the organization held its first church service on June 15, 1965, at a municipal building in Upper St. Clair. The church was originally named St. Clair Bible Chapel.

Families involved with the church enjoyed a variety of Bible teachings, Youth Groups, and music. In 1968, the organization purchased its first building. About ten years later, a 240-seat sanctuary was added. By 1980, the congregation grew to approximately 140 members. The church acknowledged the need for a full-time pastor. In May 1985, Dr. John H. Munro became South Hills Bible Chapel's first pastor.

In September 1992, Dr. Munro left the church to take on another pastorate. The church's Associate Pastor, Ron Moore, who joined the church in 1989, became the senior pastor.

The church's fundraisers did a remarkable job in raising money for the church, and in January 1993 the church had raised $600,000 to purchase their present 20-acre property. In December 1995, construction of the new facility was complete and services were held in this new state-of-the-art facility.

Today, South Hills Bible Chapel still continues to grow as new members join almost monthly.

The congregation initially increased in size after the opening of the new auditorium, but later began to experience a slow decline in attendance for their 10:45 AM service after a number of staff changes occurred (see next paragraph). The newest extension of the church resulted in a new worship auditorium that replaced the smaller auditorium that also serves as a municipal room for church activities.

In 2008, the Bible Chapel went through series of staff changes. Longtime worship leader Clayton Lopez left to lead worship in a church in South Carolina. High school youth pastor Jon Fowler moved to Chicago to pursue a degree in seminary. The Chapel also released a number of pastoral and managerial staff members during this time. Middle-school youth pastor Justin Bowers is currently the interim worship leader while the church seeks a permanent worship leader replacement. The church recently hired Nathan Lee as the new high school youth pastor.
