University College of Borås

The University College of Borås or "Högskolan i Borås" is a university college in Borås, Sweden.

The University College of Borås is a modern college with six departments. It manages educations in Library and Information Studies, Business and Informatics, Fashion and Textile Studies, Behavioural and Education Sciences, Engineering and Health Sciences. The campus is located in the centre of the city and have 11 800 students and 600 employees.

The University College of Borås has the front edge on several exciting research projects, among other things ‘Smart textiles’ which is a preferential research area in the region. Cloth which changes colours when the mobile phone rings, garments which measure muscular frequency and curtains which become lights in the dark are just a few examples. Furthermore, our students get jobs unusually fast. The fact is that the University College of Borås year after year is placed in the top when the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education investigates the employment situation. The school offers degrees in Industria Biotechnology , economics, IT, teaching, engineering, nursing and is also the main place educational place for librarians in Sweden. Due to the city's long history in textile industry, the school also has a good textile and fashion department. The textile department is situated in an old textile plant, and as a consequence have access to industrial machines for weaving or creating textiles.

The school also have courses in business law, design and management.

At the moment the school is trying to become a university with focus on professions, and they are applying to be the fourth police-academy in Sweden.

History

The college in Borås was based through Högskolereformen 1977. Then, two educations were: the preschool seminar (based 1966) and Bibliotekshögskolan (established 1972).
