Llewelyn Powys (pronEng|ˌdʒɒn ˌkuːpɚ ˈpoʊɪs) (
August 13 ,1884 -December 2 ,1939 ), was a British writer, a younger brother ofJohn Cowper Powys and T. F. Powys.Life
He was born in Dorchester, son of a Welsh clergyman, and was educated at
Sherborne School andCorpus Christi College, Cambridge . While lecturing in the USA, he contractedtuberculosis . After his return in 1909, he travelled again, living for a while inSwitzerland . His time inAfrica , from 1914 to 1919 farming with his brother William inBritish East Africa nearGilgil which is now inKenya , proved inspirational, as did many of his life experiences. Other writings included a novel, "Apples Be Ripe" (1930), and a biography ofHenry Hudson (1927).Works
