Quintin Kynaston School

Quintin Kynaston (QK) is a local comprehensive secondary school in St. John's Wood in City of Westminster, London. It became a Specialist Technology College in 2001 [ [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/low/education/1400721.stm More schools get specialist status] (bbc.co.uk, accesses 25 July 2007)]

The school is a well known North London comprehensive which has rapidly improved its profile in recent years. The school is well known for its the ethnic diversity of its students and the cultural harmony amongst them. The school is also noted for having a large amount of students gifted in the expressive arts field; Suggs, lead singer of 80s band Madness and RnB singer Shola Ama both attended the school.

The BBC recently made a documentary about the school focusing on its ability, as an inner-city school, to change pupil's lives. The school has successfully created, piloted and reinstated many day-to-day 'school systems' that are now being modeled in other schools across the country. In September 2004 the school received an excellent OFSTED report, a testament to the huge improvements that have been made in recent years.

In September 2003 the British prime minister, Tony Blair, launched the 'Extended Schools' scheme at Quintin Kynaston. This faculty consists of a Prefect team, a School Council, a Student Leadership Team, Peer Mentors, Community / Subject / Pastoral Leaders and Assistant Youth Workers and an SEN Student Forum.

School uniforms

Quintin Kynaston requires school uniforms for all students in years 7 through 11.

The students are required to wear black shoes. Most of the students wear "wallabees".
