Real Personal Trooper Type-2

Real Personal Trooper Type-2, known better as the R-2, is a fictional robot in the Super Robot Wars series. Its upgrade is known as the R-2 Powered. It has appeared as a playable unit in Shin Super Robot Wars, the Super Robot Wars Alpha series and series. The R-2 Altered for the Banpreios Project has been mentioned, but has not yet appeared in any games.

Appearance

The R-2 is a somewhat bulky machine that is well armored. It is colored mostly dark blue, but it does have some use of red, orange, and white. The R-2 Powered has a pair of 5-Barrel Cannons mounted over the shoulders.

Technical And Historical

The SRX Developmental Project spawned in an attempt to counter existing threats to the Earth required a set of robots to combine to form the mighty machine that would become SRX. This began the development of the R-Series mecha. One of the mecha of the series which is meant to form the chest and arms of SRX is the Real Personal Trooper Type-2, or R-2. The reason the R-2 is so bulky and heavy is for two reasons: the first is that the R-2 holds the Tronium Engine for the SRX, which causes the R-2 to overheat very easily. The second is that the R-2 is outfitted to carry large, ranged weapons, so a lot of armor is needed to support these weapons. For extra defensive capabilities, the R-2 is outfitted with a beam shield on its left arm. Unlike its partner units, the R-2 does not use a T-Link System. It was decided that the R-2's pilot should not be a Psychodriver, since his purpose in the SRX would be to maintain the engine.

The R-2's pilot is Raidiese F. Branstein. He would utilize this weapon very well in combat and serve his purpose well. Later on, the R-2 is given its upgrades, including a pair of Hi-Zol Launchers on each shoulder -- five-barreled particle cannons that serve as the arms of SRX when the R-Series mecha combine. A solid shield is added to each arm and beam shield generators are on both arms, but they instead project an AB Field now. After the war with the Aerogaters from Balmar in Super Robot Wars Alpha, the R-Series mecha were dismantled one by one.

As Balmar begins their full-on invasion of the Earth in Super Robot Wars Alpha 3, the R-Series mecha are rebuilt. The SRX, however, is destroyed by Hazal Gozzo. During this time, the project to build the SRX Altered Banpreios is in the works, and in the process, an R-2 Altered is to act as the core machine of the unit. However, the combining plan is cancelled, so instead of three separate units, the Banpreios is built as a single, inseparable unit (although the 3 units still exist in the design, allowing the feature to be activated in the future).
