In New Mexico he lived with the Navajo Indians, where he mastered the art of sand-casting.
He has always been interested in all kinds of art forms. On his website Haukur presents his version of the Viking myth of Asgard, Yggdrasil, The Tree of Live and the bewitching underworld. This selection of works from 1989 - 2001 shows his rare ability to combine disparate elements from the worlds of fantasy, myth and everyday experience in to magical haunting works.
Hawk's paintings often contain a jumble of dispraised objects - mysterious magical characters, fire spewing primeval titans, sections of peculiar structures, living skull, Viking ships in a strange surrounding, other present rearing horses or reclining nudes obviously based on classical models removed to an anomalous environments.
