Seller's appears as Robert Danvers, a vain womanizing host of a cooking show. He meets Hawn's character, a no-nonsense hippie, and falls for her. Seller's catchphrase in this film is "My god, but you're lovely."

The film is based on the stage comedy of the same same written by Terence Frisby, produced by Michael Codron, directed by Bob Chetwyn and starring Donald Sinden, Barbara Ferris and Jon Pertwee, which ran for six years in the West End, from 1966 to 1972, including three years at The Globe Theatre (now The Gielgud) breaking records to become London's longest-ever running comedy. This record was later broken by "No Sex Please, We're British" and then "Run For Your Wife". Frisby's screenplay for the film won The Writer's Guild Of Great Britain Award for Best Screenplay in 1970.
