Syro-African Depression

Syro-African Depression

The Syro-African Depression is a large area of low-lying land in the Middle East. It comprises all of the land that is part of the drainage basin of the Dead Sea and is spread over Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, the West Bank, and Syria. The Syro part of the name comes from it being found in the area sometimes described as Greater Syria, while the African part of the name refers to the fact that the depression is geologically the northern most part of the African Rift Valley system, despite the fact that it is not in Africa.
