- Eurydice of Egypt
Eurydice (in Greek Eυρυδικη) was daughter of
Antipater and wife of Ptolemy, the son ofLagus . The period of her marriage is not mentioned by any ancient writer, but it is probable that it took place shortly after the partition of Triparadisus, and the appointment of Antipater to the regency,321 BC . She was the mother of three sons, viz.Ptolemy Keraunos , Meleager, who succeeded his brother on the throne ofMacedon ia, and a third (whose name is not mentioned), put to death byPtolemy II Philadelphus rf|1|paus_1.7; and of two daughters, Ptolemais, afterwards married to Demetrius Poliorcetesrf|2|plut1_32_46, andLysandra , the wife of Agathocles, son ofLysimachus .rf|3|paus_1.9 It appears, however, that Ptolemy, who, like all the other Greek princes of his day, had several wives at once, latterly neglected her for Berenicerf|4|plut2_4; and it was probably from resentment on this account, and for the preference shown to the children of Berenice, that she withdrew from the court ofPtolemaic Egypt . In287 BC we find her residing atMiletus , where she welcomed Demetrius Poliorcetes, and gave him her daughter Ptolemais in marriage, at a time when such a step could not but be highly offensive to Ptolemy.rf|5|plut1_46References
