John Mackintosh Howie, CBE, FRSE (born
23 May 1936 ), Scottish mathematician, was a prominentsemigroup theorist in the 20th century.Howie was educated at
Robert Gordon's College ,Aberdeen , theUniversity of Aberdeen andBalliol College, Oxford .He won the
