May 5 ,1927 –December 26 ,1995 ) was anAmerican football player andtelevision sportscaster .DeRogatis was born in
Newark, New Jersey and began his playing career at Newark's Central High School, earning All-State at center. AtDuke University he made the 1948All-America team as a tackle, going pro the following year with the NFLNew York Giants . In 1951, he made the NFL All-Pro team.Upon graduation from Duke, he married his high school sweetheart, Louise.
In 1952, an
ankle injury ended his playing career. In 1953, he began working for Prudential Insurance, which he would remain at through 1986.In the late 1960s and early 1970s DeRogatis worked as a
color commentator for pro and college football telecasts on NBC, teaming primarily withCurt Gowdy forAmerican Football League and laterAmerican Football Conference games, and working severalSuper Bowl s and Rose Bowls in addition to regular-season games. DeRogatis also partnered withMarty Glickman in the early 1960s as the radio broadcast team for the New York Giants onWNEW (AM) , before moving to NBC.DeRogatis was inducted into the
College Football Hall of Fame in 1986. He died in 1995 inSpring Lake, New Jersey .Legacy
