"Yol" tells the story of several prisoners on leave in Turkey. Seyit Ali (
Tarık Akan ) travels to his house and finds that his wife (Şerif Sezer ) has betrayed him and went on prostitution. She has been catched by his family and held captive for Seyit Ali to honor kill her. Although seeming determined at first, he changes his mind when his wife start to freeze. In spite of all the efforts to keep her alive, he eventually fails. The wives death relieves Seyit Ali from pressure from his family, and he is saved from justice since she freezes but he has an internal struggle and has to return to jail.Mehmet Salih (Halil Ergün ) has been arrested after trying to pull off a heist with his brother-in-law, whom he abandoned as he was being shot by the police. His in-laws want nothing to do with him, and he is finally forced to tell his wife Emine (Meral Orhonsay ) the truth. Emine and Mehmet Salih decide to run away and they get on a train. On train they get caught in the trains toilet during their long awaited sexual intercourse. They are saved from the angry mob by the trains officers only to be held in a room before to be handed to officials as soon as possible. On that room a young boy from Emines family has boarded the train and shots both Mehmet Salih and Emine.Ömer (Necmettin Çobanoğlu) returns to his village. The village being a border village has a struggle with the army due because of smuggling going on. Ömer makes visits and arrangements to cross to border to not return to jail. Although Ömer was clearly determined, he gives up his plan because his brother has been shot death while smuggling. Ömer has by his brothers death inherited the responsibilities of his brothers wife and children which was dictated to him by tradition.Each prisoner in the film has some conflict, which threaten their freedom, with tradition beside their conflicts with law which has imprisoned them.
