Grangetown is a suburb of Sunderland in Tyne and Wear, England. It is situated two miles south of Sunderland City Centre and two miles north of Ryhope. Grangetown is known for heavy traffic congestion, as it contains the intersection of the A1018 road (which is the original route of the A19 and the main road into Sunderland from the south) and the inner and outer ring roads. In 2005 work started on the A1018 Sunderland Southern Radial Route, a new bypass for Grangetown and Ryhope. Work is nearing completion and is expected to be completed in 2008. Grangetown is also close to an area named Hendon.

Because of its geography and general low level above the sea, analogue television reception in most of Grangetown is poor, with many residents aerials facing the Bilsdale transmitter in North Yorkshire, rather than the Pontop Pike transmitter in County Durham. They therefore receive Tyne Tees South rather than Tyne Tees North.
