os_grid_reference=Grangetown is a suburb of
Sunderland inTyne and Wear ,England . It is situated two miles south of Sunderland City Centre and two miles north ofRyhope . Grangetown is known for heavy traffic congestion, as it contains the intersection of theA1018 road (which is the original route of the A19 and the main road into Sunderland from the south) and the inner and outer ring roads. In 2005 work started on the A1018 SunderlandSouthern Radial Route , a new bypass for Grangetown and Ryhope. Work is nearing completion and is expected to be completed in 2008. Grangetown is also close to an area named Hendon.Because of its geography and general low level above the sea, analogue television reception in most of Grangetown is poor, with many residents aerials facing the
Bilsdale transmitter inNorth Yorkshire , rather than thePontop Pike transmitter inCounty Durham . They therefore receive Tyne Tees South rather than Tyne Tees North.
