Heartland Film Festival

First held in 1992cite web|title=Heartland Film Festival - History|url=http://www.heartlandfilmfestival.org/2003/history.aspx|year=2003|accessdate=2006-02-08] , its goal is to "recognize and honor filmmakers whose work explores the human journey by artistically expressing hope and respect for the positive values of life."

Awards

Its awards include the "Crystal Heart Award", for independent filmmakers, and the "Jimmy Stewart Memorial Crystal Heart Award", for student filmmakers.cite web|title=Awards|url=http://www.heartlandfilmfestival.org/2005/awards.html|year=2005|accessdate=2006-02-08] Films winning either award (several of each are awarded each year) are screened during the festival, in addition to other films. The festival began awarding a Grand Prize for Best Dramatic Feature in 1999. In 2005, the festival instituted "Audience Choice Awards": one each for dramatic feature, documentary feature, and short.
