It was written by German composer team Irmgard Klarmann and Felix Weber (better known as Klarmann/Weber). Unlike her first single (which was a ballad), this song was an uptempo club/dance track. The theme of the song focuses on Tracie discovering that she is suffering from "symptoms of true love" and lists the causes. After this single was released, the third and final single from her debut album, "Imagine" (a cover of John Lennon's "Imagine"), was released in early-1989.

Chart Information

"Symptoms of True Love" was Tracie's first track that was released onto The Billboard Hot 100. It reached #38 on that chart. It did better on the R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart, where it hit #11.
