Institute of Transpersonal Psychology

Institute of Transpersonal Psychology

The Institute of Transpersonal Psychology is a private, non-sectarian graduate school accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Founded in 1975, the campus is located in Palo Alto, California.

Its unique curriculum, initially developed by Robert Frager, focuses on six areas of inquiry: the intellectual, emotional, spiritual, physical, social and creative aspects of life. One of the unique qualities of the school is the requirement that all students take a certain amount of Aikido which is one way that the school integrates the "physical" learning component of its teaching philosophy into the curriculum of the program.

The Institute has two major degree programs, a residential program and a global program. The residential program offers options for students to gain both master's and doctoral degrees by taking courses offered on campus. The residential Master's degree options include a Master of Arts in Transpersonal Psychology and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology (in California a person with this degree may be licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist). The residential Ph.D. program allows students to earn either a Ph.D. in Transpersonal Psychology or a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology (in California a person with this degree may be licensed as a Psychologist). The Global program allows students from around the US and the world to take courses online. The degree offerings in the Global program include a Master's of Arts in Transpersonal Psychology and the Ph.D. program offers a Ph.D. in Psychology.
