Steve Edwards (born Steven Edward Schwartz in
New York City ) is aLos Angeles -based broadcast personality. Edwards is currently the lead anchor/host of "Good Day L.A. ", a morning news and infotainment program that airs on Fox-ownedKTTV in Los Angeles. He also hosted GDLA's nationally-syndicated companion show, "Good Day Live", which aired on many Fox-owned and affiliated stations from 2001-2005. Edwards is also frequently featured in movies and television playing a reporter or news anchor.Edwards began his broadcasting career after graduating from the
University of Miami (earning a degree in history) and attending theUniversity of Houston (unfinished work on a master's degree in clinical psychology). His first broadcasting job was with Clear Lake City radio station KMSC in the mid-1960s. He quickly moved up to Houston radio stationKTRH-AM , where he hosted a popular nighttime call-in show. While in Houston, he also worked at CBS television affiliateKHOU-TV , where he was a news anchor and hosted talk shows on the station. Edwards moved on toChicago in the 1975, where he worked at ABC'sWLS-TV hosting "A.M. Chicago" and his own late night talk show, "Friday Night with Steve Edwards", both of which earned him localEmmy awardsfact|date=May 2008. In 1978, Edwards finally came to Los Angeles, where he worked atCBS -owned KNXT (nowKCBS-TV ), where he hosted infotainment programs such as "Two On The Town" (withConnie Chung ) and his own self-titled talk show. While at the station, he served as their entertainment editor, reviewing movies, television, and the arts. He also worked on "The Baxters ", an experimental sitcom produced byNorman Lear . At KABC, he hosted "A.M. Los Angeles" (which was modeled after by the show that replaced it--"Live with Regis & Kathie Lee ") and its shorter-lived afternoon companion show, "330"--later replaced byThe Oprah Winfrey Show in Fall 1986. "A.M. Los Angeles" was cancelled in 1991 due to rising production costs. Edwards joined KABC's sister AM radio station in October 1990, where hosted a variety of shows for the station, including a sports-talk show that began in 1994, titled "Sportstalk 790".Edwards got back into local television in 1993-1994, where he hosted Live in L.A., an infotainment program on
KCAL-TV Channel 9. Edwards finally arrived at his current position as lead anchor and host of KTTV's "Good Day L.A." in 1995, which has battledKTLA 's "Morning News" for the top local morning program in the Los Angeles area.On
