Strewn Winery

Strewn Winery

Strewn Winery is a small winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada. It was established in 1997 by winemaker Joe Will and his wife, food writer Jane Langdon.

The winery produces a selection of VQA certified wines using grapes grown in its own vineyard as well as other vineyards in the Niagara Peninsula. Strewn uses Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Blanc and Vidal grapes. In addition to traditional wines, they also produce sweeter late harvest and ice wines.

Wines are produced under three different labels. Their very best wines are labelled Strewn Terroir, including their red Strewn Three meritage. Their general wines are simply labelled Strewn. Additionally, they produce a variety of inexpensive Two Vines wines, each being a blend of two different grapes.

Strewn's wines routinely win awards at international competitions. Recently, their ice wines won gold and bronze medals at French Citadelles du Vin Vinexpo, and their French Oak Chardonnay won silver in the Belgian Concours Mondial.

To help finance the necessary capital expenditures to operate a young winery, Strewn offers an innovative Barrel Club program. Members purchase a French or American oak barrel, which the winery uses for a number of years. During that time, members are entitled to a certain amount of wine each year. At the end of the period, the member may choose to take the barrel or an additional allotment of wine.

In addition to wine, Strewn operates a gourmet restaurant and a cooking school in the winery building, a converted canning factory.
