Albuquerque Academy founded in 1955), established in 1879 with 27 students by theColorado College ofColorado Springs . It was taken over by the city in 1891, and was renamed "Albuquerque High School". The school moved to the corner of Broadway and Central in 1914, and it moved to its present location in 1974. "The Record", the official Albuquerque High School student newspaper, is the oldest student publication in the state of New Mexico. It is published monthly and covers important school, regional, and national events, in addition to features, reviews, and opinion pieces relevant to students. The Editors in Chief for the 2008-2009 school year are seniors Justin E. Calles and Elise C. Gurney. The paper will be in its ninety-first volume.
Bulldog Battalion
The "Bulldog Battalion" is the Albuquerque High School Army Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (AJROTC) Unit. They were formed in 1946, and they were the first unit established in
New Mexico . Currently, the unit holds theHonor Unit with Distinction Award , given to the top five percent of JROTC units in the country. Linda Sink was formerly a principal at Albuquerque High School, and went on to be a temporary superintendent of the Albuquerque Public Schools education system ending her Albuquerque High principal career at the end of the 2006-2007 school year. The current principal at Albuquerque High School is Tim McCorkle.Albuquerque Evening High School
Albuquerque Evening High School was started in 1914 as part of Albuquerque High School. In 1977 the school was granted its own facility, administration, and staff. The school is an alternative, to summer school, for students who need to earn credits to graduate and for those students who want to graduate early.
