- Faculty of Engineering, University of Melbourne
The [http://www.eng.unimelb.edu.au/ Melbourne School of Engineering] at [http://www.unimelb.edu.au/ the University of Melbourne] is the oldest engineering faculty in
Australia . It was established in 1861, only 8 years after the establishment of [http://www.unimelb.edu.au/ the University of Melbourne] , and was made a Faculty in 1889. It teaches a substantial number of undergraduate and postgraduate students (around 4,500, including over 1,400 international students from over 50 countries), as well as being a significant centre for engineering research, employing many leaders in their fields. From 2008 there are two ways students can embark on gaining engineering qualifications at the University of Melbourne: the four-year Bachelor or Engineering; or one of the Melbourne Model undergraduate degrees (Biomedicine, Environments, Commerce or Science) followed by a professional Master of Engineering accredited by Engineers Australia.
A student can select from one of the Melbourne Model undergraduate degrees which have engineering pathways (Biomedicine, Environments, Commerce or Science) ensuring exposure to more of the best on offer at the University of Melbourne.
For example, students who would have previously considered doing a double degree in Commerce and Engineering, can now apply to do a Melbourne Model Bachelor of Commerce, enrolling in a specified sequence of Engineering subjects leading to the prestigious professional Master of Engineering. These students will graduate twice in five years with qualifications a cut above the standard double degree.
Similarly students with an interest in Science and Engineering will now be able to enrol in a Melbourne Model Bachelor of Science and follow it with a Master of Engineering.
