Thiruvayaru

Thiruvayaru

Thiruvaiyaru is a place of religious importance to the Tamil people and has profound importance for its relevance to Tamil Literature.

It is a major site in Carnatic music, and is the death site of saint Tyagaraja (considered to be a very important person to avid carnatic music followers).

It is situated on the banks of river Cauvery about 10 km from Tanjore.

Saint Thiagaraja along with Samasastri and Muthusami Dikshadar are considered to be the three pioneers of Carnatic music without who carnatic music would not have evolved to its present state.
