Political career
Green has led the development of many
housing projects , including the radically inclusiveWoodward's building redevelopment and is a well-known advocate for the city'sDowntown Eastside . He now works as a Development Consultant for developers and non-profit community groups.In 2002 he was elected to
Vancouver City Council as a member of theCoalition of Progressive Electors (COPE), and subsequently, with mayorLarry Campbell and councillor Raymond Louie, left to form a new party,Vision Vancouver . Under the Vision Vancouver banner, he unsuccessfully ran for mayor in 2005, losing toSam Sullivan .It was the second time Green had run for mayor unsuccessfully, having been beaten as a member of COPE by then-NPA mayor
Gordon Campbell in 1990. Six years later, Green again faced Campbell, this time in the 1996 provincial election. Green, a New Democrat, was defeated by BC Liberal leader, and future premier Campbell.Academic career
Green is an adjunct professor of Anthropology at the
University of British Columbia , where he co-founded the university's Urban Field School. Green was chair of Four Corners Community Savings, which was closed by the BC government for financial losses. He served on the board of theFederation of Canadian Municipalities .References
