- Bernard Lamotte
Bernard Lamotte (1903 - September 28, 1983) was a
Paris -born artist, illustrator, painter and muralist. He attendedÉcole des Beaux-Arts at theSorbonne . He moved to New York City in 1935 at the age of 32 to pursue his art. Later, he illustrated for numerous fashion magazines. Lamotte studied underLucien Simon (1861-1945). He became an American citizen in 1951. Lamotte married Lilyan White Kent, a painter and sculptor, the widow of Twentieth Century Fox presidentSidney R. Kent . She introduced to such stars asMarlene Dietrich ,Charlie Chaplin , andGreta Garbo . He painted a mural for the White House pool for John F. Kennedy (now in theJohn F. Kennedy Library and Museum, Boston). Lamotte had a studio inMontmartre , Paris called Le Bocal, whereAntoine de Saint-Exupéry wrote "Le petit prince".He died at age 80 from complications from surgery at St. Luke's Hospital in Manhattan.
