She is the daughter of record veteran executive and producer Gene Redd.sr, and singer and evangelist Carolyn Ford-Griffith, and thesister of the lateSharon Redd . Following a stint as aGAP Band backing vocalist , she released analbum entitled "Pennye" in 1984 and her following single, "Dangerous" reached theUK Singles Chart in 1985. Likewise, in 1993 she released anotheralbum , "Penny Ford" and had another Top 50 UK single from it: "Daydreaming". She became good friends withChaka Khan when singing background vocals on "Our Day Will Come", a duet withEdwin Starr .Ford was a lead
singer (alongside the line "I've Got the Power"; a vocal sample from theJocelyn Brown song, "Love's Gonna Get You") with the German electronic band SNAP! on "The Power".
