Meaning

The name "Tariq" from the Sufi tradition (the Tariqas orders) has three related meanings in the Arabic language:

"transl|sem|Ṭāriq" is the noun to the Arabic verb "transl|sem|ṭaraqa" (arB|طرق meaning "messenger / knocking") and for this reason means "deliverer of messages / the knocking one".

The second meaning is the meaning from the Qur'an, where "transl|sem|ṭāriq" is the name of the morning star, which is described as the "shining star" which leads the way. More recent discoveries about pulsar stars have prompted some scholars to associate those Neutronic stars with "transl|sem|ṭāriq", where knocking equates pulsing. And the third meaning is a traveler through the night, more specifically, pathbreaker or finder. He who leads the way.Fact|date=May 2007
