Will Allen Dromgoole

Will Allen Dromgoole (October 26, 1860-September 1, 1934) was an author and poet born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She wrote over 7,500 poems, 5,000 essays, and published thirteen books. Her poem "The Bridge Builder" is often reprinted and remains quite popular. It has even graced plaques on real bridges such as the [http://www.sover.net/~daxtell/bf/bfvilas.html Bellows Falls--Vilas Bridge] in Connecticut. It continues to be quoted frequently, usually in a religious context or in writings stressing a moral lesson. It is also a favorite of motivational speakers.

She is also known for having written a series of articles on the American ethnic group know as the Melungeons. Her derogatory comments about them, while unfortunate and more hearsay than fact, are typical of the period in which she was writing.
