Rubins started his career in 1996 at
FK Auda in the Latvian 2nd Division. The following year he moved toSweden withÖsters IF where he made 11 league appearances before moving back to Latvia in 1998 to play forFC Skonto where he made 67 appearances, scoring 14 goals. In 2000 he moved to EnglishFootball League First Division club Crystal Palace. However, he made just 31 appearances in three seasons at the club in December 2002 he moved toRussia initially to play Spartak Moscow in theRussian Premier League on a free transfer.Corrently playing for an Azerbaijani champions Inter Baku.cite news
