- Liam Watson
Liam Watson formed
Toe Rag Studios in the early 1990s. Since then his collection of vintage musical instruments and recording equipment has grown and grown, attracting the cream of modern bands looking for that 'retro edge'. Notable acts to record with him at the studios includeThe White Stripes ,The Cribs ,The Kills ,Holly Golightly ,Madness ,Billy Childish andThe Zutons .Liam is well known for his
retro dress sense and the (nowadays) unusual practice of wearing alabcoat in the studio. This is because Liam is also proficient in the art of repairing/tweaking the vintage recording equipment he uses (and need not get his clothes dirty!)At The Top Of His Game
With the advent of
digital recording in the 1980s, music production started to become clinical in some respects; the recordings lost that 'live' feel. Liam Watson, a musician himself, decided to create his own studio where the techniques of the past masters such asGeorge Martin andJoe Meek would be able to be employed and expanded upon to get a true recording of the sound. The resultingToe Rag Studios is currently the epitome of analogue recording and is highly sought among recording venues by bands who value the classic recordings of the 1960s and '70s.Number One
