Earl Leslie Krugel (
November 24 ,1942 –November 4 ,2005 ) was the West Coast coordinator of theJewish Defense League . In 2001, he was sentenced to prison on charges of terrorism after he confessed plotting, with the group's leader,Irv Rubin , to blow up the office ofArab-American Darrell Issa and the King Fahdmosque inCulver City, California . In his third year of imprisonment, he was murdered by a fellow inmate, who struck him with a block ofconcrete .Life

In September 2005, U.S. District Court Judge Ronald S.W. Lew sentenced Krugel to 20 years in prison. Part of the plea agreement for his sentence demanded that he reveal the names of all JDL activists involved in the 1985 bombing.
Imprisonment and death

November 4 ,2005 , at the Federal Correctional Institution inPhoenix, Arizona , Krugel was murdered by another inmate, who used a concrete block to strike his head.Fact|date=September 2008 Krugel had been at the prison for three days. As the case against Earl Krugel was on appeal at the time of his death, Judge Lew dismissed conviction. Fact|date=September 2008The suspect, David Frank Jennings, 30, allegedly attacked Krugel from behind with a piece of concrete hidden in a bag while Krugel was using an exercise machine.Fact|date=September 2008
A fitness fanatic, Krugel was using exercise equipment when he was blind-sided between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Nov. 4, 2005.
His main injury was the initial blow to the back of his head, which crushed the left side of his skull and severely damaged his brain and brain stem. But his attacker also delivered multiple blows to Krugel's skull, face and neck, according to the autopsy, which was performed by the Maricopa County medical examiner and obtained by The Journal.Fact|date=September 2008 Krugel suffered multiple skull fractures, internal bleeding and multiple lacerations to his head, face and brain. The beating knocked out teeth and also fractured one of his eye sockets. Krugel was pronounced dead at the scene. Fact|date=September 2008
