Gangwon Campaign

The Gangwon camaign was a campaign by the Japanese army to pacify Gangwon province, Korea in 1592, just after the beginning of the Seven Year War.

Timeline

Ukita Hideie was appointed as supreme commander of the Japanese army in Korea, allotted to Mori Yoshinari's Fourth Division to making them to Kato Kiyomasa's rear guard by pacifying Kangwon Province.

*The Fall of Hoeyang Castle (Hangul : 회양성 Hanja : 淮陽) on June 5 1592*
Mori Yoshinari VS Kim Yeon-gwang (Hangul : 김연광 Hanja : 金鍊光) (Korean Regular Army : 조선육군)

Mori Yoshinari's pacification of Gangwon Province

The province of Gangwon had been very peaceful following its occupation by Mori Yoshinari's Fourth Division, but after a few months guerilla activity erupted.

Son In-gap (Hangul : 손인갑 Hanja :孫仁甲) vs Mori Yoshinari
Results : Son In-gap is killed

*The Battle of Kumhwa on June 16 1592* :
Won Ho (Hangul : 원호 Hanja : 元豪) (Korean Regular Army : 조선육군) VS Shimazu Yoshihiro (Kanji : 島津忠豊)
Results : Won Ho is killed.

*The Battle of BonHwa (Hangul : 봉화) on August 22 1592*
Yu Jong-gae (Hangul : 유종개 Hanja :柳宗介) vs Mori Yoshinari
Result : Choson defeat.

*The Siege of Youngwon Castle (Hangul : 영원산성 Hanja :領原山城) on August 25 1592*
Kim Jae-gap (Hangul : 김제갑 Hanja : 金悌甲) (Korean Regular Army : 조선육군) VS Ito Suketaka
Results : Fall of the Castle - Kim Jae-gap is killed.
