Bernard Derome, OQ (born
January 10 ,1944 inMontreal ,Quebec ) is aQuebec news anchor for SRC Television, who currently anchors the weeknight editions of "Le Téléjournal ".In 1994, he was made a Member of the
Order of Canada . In 2006, he was made an Officer of theNational Order of Quebec .Biography
He studied at Saint Lawrence College near the clergy of Saint Viateur. In 1963, when he was 19 years old, he received his first contract with CJBR station in Rimouski, Quebec. He began working for Radio-Canada in 1965, after which he began other work, anchoring the show "Aujourd'hui" (Today) in 1967.
Derome was leader of Radio Canada Television from 1970 to 1998, anchoring Le Téléjournal every night. He made his career during the October Crisis, and was present during 23 provincial and federal elections. He made memorable presentation during the 1980 referendum, the Charlottetown referendum, and the 1995 referendum.
From 1998 to 2004, he anchored informational shows such as "5 sur 5," "le Monde," and "la Grande Aventure de la télévision." In 2004, proving a drop in ratings, Radio-Canada Télévision asked him to replace Gilles Gougeon, who himself succeeded
Stéphan Bureau . In 2008, he announced his intention leave the anchor's chair in January 2009; he will be replaced by Céline Galipeau.He is one of the best-known personalities in Canadian television, and Radio-Canada uses him as a star.
He is a recipient of the Olivar-Asselin prize (1981). In 1973, he was chosen for the third time the handsomest man in Canada in a contest organized by the show "Appelez-moi Lise," (Call me Lise), anchored by Lise Payette.
