Web container

Web container

In Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition, a web container "implements the web component contract of the J2EE architecture" [http://java.sun.com/j2ee/1.4/docs/glossary.html#89338] . This contract specifies a runtime environment for web components that includes security, concurrency, life-cycle management, transaction, deployment, and other services. A web container provides the same services as a JSP container as well as a federated view of the J2EE platform APIs. Examples of web containers are:
* Sun Java System Application Server
* Sun Java System Web Server
* Tomcat for Java WSDP

ee also

*Servlet container
