The Lake Ontario Kiyi tended to have a larger head with large eyes, long ventral fins and long gill rakers, usually numbering fewer than 44. Its color was similar to other ciscoes which have silvery sides with pink or purple iridescence, dark backs and white undersides.
These fishes have now been found in the Atlantic Ocean near Newfoundland. It was caught by a fishing company and later on, they found more.
