Grasmere, British Columbia, Canada, elevation 869m, is a tiny hamlet located in southeastern Kootenay region of British Columbia within the Regional District of East Kootenay, British Columbia (RDEK). Grasmere has a population of 150 people and is located 10 kilometers from the U.S. border and the state of Montana. The majority of inhabitants are employed in the timber, farming or mining industries. Grasmere is located within the Galton mountain range and is also located near the Koocanusa reservoir (Lake Koocanusa)and Elk River. The nearest cities or towns are Fernie and Cranbrook. The area is served by one school, Grasmere Elementary School. The name of the community was provided by a student, Warren Lancaster, in a competition in the early 20th century. It is named after the town of Grasmere in northern England's Lake District.
